A woman punched a 70-year-old Walmart greeter in the face after she asked to see a receipt for merchandise the woman was carrying out of the store.

Jacquetta Simmons, 26, was charged with two counts of assault for the attack that knocked 70-year-old Grace Suozzi to the ground causing the elderly woman to fracture the side of her face.

Simmons and her male companion ran out of the store in Batavia, New York after the confrontation at 11:30am on Christmas Eve.

Barack Obama has abandoned a commitment to veto a new security law that allows the military to indefinitely detain without trial American terrorism suspects arrested on US soil who could then be shipped to Guantánamo Bay.

Time Magazine’s timing of its release of its Person of the Year couldn’t have been better – right around the time an Occupy Portland mom was caught putting her four year old child on train tracks in an effort to shut down the port. In the video she said she has “faith in humanity,” and that nobody would run down a bunch of people on train tracks. As noted in the video, one’s “humanity” has no bearing on the ability to stop a loaded train.

Scott Walker as long as they are properly dated and include a Wisconsin address, the board charged with reviewing the petitions was told Tuesday." Now, I wonder what the political makeup of this board might be. In a recall effort, a petition signed by "Adolf Hitler" will be valid; a signature of "Mickey Mouse" will be valid -- and this is being allowed! The name of this board is The Government Accountability Board, and all they're doing here is passing the buck.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The United States is awash in gasoline. So much so, in fact, that the country is exporting a record amount of it.

The country exported 430,000 more barrels of gasoline a day than it imported in September, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That is about twice the amount at the start of the year, and experts and industry insiders say the trend is here to stay.

Police officers threw a group of Occupy demonstrators out of a Glenn Beck book signing in Tallahassee, Fla. Friday as they shouted familiar themes about “the 99 percent.”

Video footage uploaded to YouTube shows at least nine individual protesters being escorted out of the Barnes and Noble bookstore where Beck was signing copies of “Being George Washington” as bystanders booed them.

A cozy town hall meeting with Michele Bachmann at the Waverly Pizza Ranch in Iowa took a twist Wednesday when a student questioned the GOP presidential contender’s views on same-sex marriage and of what she would do for the gay and lesbian community as president.

“All of us as Americans have the same rights, we have the same civil rights,” Bachmann told 16-year-old Jane Schmidt, who identified herself as a member of the school’s GSA, the alliance advocating for the rights of gay and straight students.

Sanitation officials said Wednesday that they expect to haul away 30 tons of debris from the Occupy L.A. encampment –- everything from clothing to heaps of garbage to oddball curiosities left behind by the protesters who lived at the City Hall tent city for two months.

Andrea Alarcon, president of the city Public Works board, said workers already have removed 25 tons of belongings from the City Hall park, all of it heading straight to a landfill.

Sanitation crews also have vacuumed up about 3,000 gallons of water that had washed into a catch basin in recent days and are testing it for hazardous materials, she said.

Vice President Joe Biden in Iraq said the administration had fulfilled its campaign promises to end the war and refused to rule out a possible presidential bid in 2016.

Biden, who is meeting with Iraqi officials ahead of the deadline for the drawdown of American forces and will participate in ceremonies to honor U.S. and Iraqi troops, said that Iraq's government and military were ready to defend themselves. Biden will also visit Turkey and Greece before returning to Washington.
