NEW YORK STATE TEA PARTY LEADERS ANNOUNCE SUPPORT FOR GOVERNOR CANDIDATE CARL PALADINO
Suffix County Liberty Report
(ALBANY, NY) - Dozens of New York Tea Party leaders drove for hours Sunday from across the state to descend on Albany and announce their support for the candidacy of Carl Paladino, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Tuesday’s New York primary. With just 48 hours to go in Paladino’s dead-heat battle with lobbyist Rick Lazio, the leaders, directly representing more than 10,000 activists, committed to get out the vote for Paladino on Tuesday.
“From the very beginning of my candidacy, I have been humbled by the support I received from the Tea Party movement across New York,” said Paladino. “Now I’m asking all the movement’s troops to hit the phones and knock on doors to get out our vote on Tuesday.”
Paladino spoke at over 50 Tea Party events throughout the state since announcing his candidacy in April. The movement played a vital role in his ability to close a 40-point gap with liberal lobbyist Lazio. The two are now tied, according to a public poll released Saturday.
“I consider myself a Tea Party member. I believe in the Tea Party agenda, and I will work closely with the movement to ensure fiscal responsibility and political accountability are restored to Albany,” Paladino said. “In many ways, I’m here today because of these good people and our campaign is very thankful for their growing support.”
The Tea Party movement is comprised of tens of millions of Americans and has proven successful in unseating several career politicians like Lazio throughout the nation since its founding in 2009. The movement supports a policy agenda of limited government, tax relief and strict adherence to the United States Constitution. New York Tea Party leaders today said Carl Paladino is the only candidate for Governor who truly supports their agenda.
At today’s press conference, representatives from many of New York’s Tea Party and 912 Project organizations attended to express their endorsement of Paladino in Tuesday’s Republican Gubernatorial primary. Rick Lazio has failed to attract any tangible support the growing movement. In fact, most have rejected him as a career politician and lobbyist who is part of the problem, not the solution.
Group leaders attended from virtually all corners of New York State, including Broome Tea Party, Buffalo 912 Project, Central New York 912 Project (Syracuse), CNY 912-Madison County, Citizens Society for Action (Long Island), Mohawk Valley Patriots, Orange-Sullivan County 912 Project, Tea New York (Buffalo), Suffolk County 912 Project, Upstate New York Tea Party (Plattsburg), Cattaraugus County Tea Party, Primary Challenge, Tea Party Patriots of Olean, Suffolk County Coalition for Legal Immigration, Overtaxed Citizens, and Albany 912 Project.
Groups unable to attend but which asked to be listed as supporting Carl at this event include Staten Island Tea Party, Southern Tier Tea Party Patriots, Niagara Tea Party, Finger Lakes Tea Party Patriots, Rally for America, and Citizens4Freedom. Many more of the state’s Tea Party movement groups which do not endorse candidates are actively supporting Carl.
Contrary to desperate claims from Rick Lazio and his dwindling supporters, none of the state’s truly active groups oppose Paladino’s candidacy.
Carl Paladino, a successful Western New York real estate developer and attorney, is a Republican candidate for Governor of New York. He and Tom Ognibene, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, petitioned their way into the Republican Primary and canvassed to create a new Taxpayers ballot line.
