"I am, to say the least, deeply disappointed that QVC caved to this kind of insane pressure by some well-funded and organized political extremist groups," the actress wrote on her website Saturday.
Actress Jane Fonda took to her website on Saturday criticizing the cable shopping network QVC after it canceled her appearance to promote her new book on aging, Prime Time: Love, Health, Sex, Fitness, Friendship, Spirit.
The Oscar-winning actress was set to appear on the network on Saturday, but the network felt pressure from angry callers who threatened to boycott if Fonda appeared.
"I have never shied away from talking about this as I have nothing to hide," Fonda continued. "I could have pointed out that threats of boycotts are nothing new for me and have never prevented me from having bestselling books and exercise DVDs, films and a Broadway play."
She added: "Most people don't buy into the far right lies. May people have reached out to express how excited they were about my going onto QVC and hearing about my book."
Fonda, who has criticized the U.S.' occupation of Iraq, addressed her critics. "Bottom line, this has gone on far too long, this spreading of lies about me! None of it is true. NONE OF IT!," Fonda wrote. "I love my country. I have never done anything to hurt my country or the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for us."
"I do not understand what the far right stands to gain by continuing with these myths," she explains further. "In this case, they denied a lot of people the chance to hear about a book that can help make life better and more fulfilling. I am deeply grateful for all of the support I have been getting since this happened, including from my Vietnam Veterans friends."
Fonda's book Prime Time, published by Random House, is in stores Aug. 9. Fonda has previously released My Life So Far, an autobiography that followed her life in three acts.
~ Thank you QVC! Now I know why my sister loves this network. Possibly Hanoi Jane can sell her book to some of the fans she made with the enemy in Vietnam? It was a love-fest! ~ C4F
