Does Pelosi Now Want A National Childcare Mandate?

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is now threatening to do “for childcare what we did for healthcare.”

A Washington Post article quotes Pelosi making the case for national childcare reform:

“‘I could never get a babysitter — have five kids in six years and no one wants to come to your house. … And everywhere I go, women say the same thing’ about how hard it is to find the kind of reliable care that would make their family lives calmer and work lives more productive.”

That’s why, Pelosi says, a top agenda item for her is “doing for childcare what we did for healthcare reform,” thus, “unleashing women” into the economy.

Sounds ominous.

If Obamacare actually is its role model, then ObamaChildcare threatens to inflict on Americans:

• A childcare mandate requiring all parents to buy childcare for their children and enter the workplace
• A national electronic database of all parents and their parenting habits, ostensibly to determine and enforce the use of “best practices” for raising children
• Forcing all private-sector child care professionals out of business, creating a single-caregiver government monopoly subjecting impressionable young children to government indoctrination in everything from climate change to illegal immigration and abortion.

Plus, as Tina Korbe points out in her post on Hot Air, if ObamaChildcare emulates Obamacare, it, too, will be wildly unpopular, since only about a third of Americans support it and a plurality actually want it repealed before it does any more damage.

She also notes that children actually turn out to be more socially well-adjusted when they’re raised by actual parents, not surrogates.

Finally, if Pelosi actually succeeds in “doing for childcare what we did for healthcare,” I guess we’re looking at another two dozen state lawsuits against the government and one more Supreme Court case.

Here we go again with these big government types. Look out, they really want your children. GET OUT OF MY LIFE! Leave the family alone. Leave the children in the home with the family. This would be a nightmare. Please people hold your children close, feed them, cloth them and educate them, they are too precious to be given over to the government from natural birth on. Being a homeschooling mother of three, this is so repulsive to me.  ~ C4F
