We don't believe a disarmed citizenry will make us a safer society. Criminals are not going to obey a gun law that disarms the public. That's why they are criminals. They already have demonstrated a disregard for the law. They will be able to buy or make their own guns anyway. The only people who would obey such laws are the law abiding...the ones we can trust to act responsibly with them. With the citizens disarmed, criminals will pretty much have free reign and can do their deeds without fear of reprisal. The biggest thing that keeps them at bay is fear...fear of the unknown and fear of getting hurt or dying. If a criminal does not know if someone may have a gun in the house, they will be less likely to break in. Instead of outlawing guns we should make having at least one in every household mandatory. I guarantee you crime rates will drop like a rock. As far as the false statements made by some, the accidental shooting stats are much lower than they say...much lower than accidents involving bicycles, poisonings, or baseball bats. Maybe we should outlaw children playing with those things...
