Catholic Churches Distribute Letter Opposing Obama Healthcare Rule

http://www.foxvalleyinitiative.com/storage/reject%20obamacare-logo3.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1300315666723

abcnews.go.com

Catholic parishioners around the country were read letters this morning written by church leadership railing against an Obama administration ruling that requires employers to provide health insurance plans that include contraceptive coverage.

Churches and other houses of worship are exempt from the guidelines but Catholic hospitals, colleges, and social services fall under the umbrella of institutions covered by the decision.

Originally introduced last summer, the decision was lauded by abortion rights supporters. But Catholicism considers some forms of contraception termination of life and religious leaders say adherence would fly in the face of the tenets of their faith. Critics also charge it would be a violation of the Constitutional right to freedom of religion.

The letters were penned by individual clergy, so variations exist in what was read at each Sunday Mass, but the overall theme is unified.

One letter from the Archdiocese of Washington says, “Catholic moral teachings will be placed in the untenable position of having to choose between violating the law and violating their conscience.”

In another from the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona, a bishop calls on Catholics to stand united against the rule.

“We cannot — we will not — comply with this unjust law,” it reads. “People of faith cannot be made second class citizens.”

Nearly all letters found by ABC News called on parishioners to pray for a reversal.

On Jan. 19, Pope Benedict XVI told the American Roman Catholic Church they needed to understand “grave threats” posed by what he called radical secularism in politics and culture. The pontiff specifically mentioned the U.S. church struggling to be permitted conscientious objection to “intrinsically evil practices.”

Earlier this month religious institutions were given a year extension to comply with the decision.

During the 2008 presidential election, then-candidate Barack Obama carried 54 percent of Catholic voters. Running mate Joseph Biden was Catholic himself. However, this campaign season has seen two strong Catholics come out of the Republican party as well: Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.

The National Association of Evangelicals also stands against the decision.

Letter:

Statement of the Archdiocese of Washington on HHS Mandate Upheld by Obama Administration

January 20, 2012

The Archdiocese of Washington echoes the concerns raised by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in a statement released Friday in response to the Obama Administration’s decision to enact regulations that will force most Catholic employers to provide health care plans covering sterilization procedures and all FDA approved contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs.

Until now, no federal law has required anyone to purchase, sell, sponsor, or be covered by a private health plan that violates his or her conscience. Under the HHS edict, however, virtually all Catholic charitable organizations, hospitals, schools, colleges and universities that want to provide for the needs of their employees and students in a manner consistent with Catholic moral teachings will be placed in the untenable position of having to choose between violating the law and violating their conscience.

Religious liberty is the most cherished and fundamental of American freedoms. As Thomas Jefferson observed in 1809, “No provision in our Constitution ought to be dearer to man than that which protects the rights of conscience against the enterprises of the civil authority.”

In a meeting with Cardinal Donald Wuerl and other American bishops on Thursday, Pope Benedict XVI addressed recent attacks on religious freedom, calling upon the American Catholic community to realize they are “grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres.” In response to these threats, Pope Benedict said the Church urges the Catholic laity to have the courage to proclaim “respect for God's gift of life, the protection of human dignity and the promotion of authentic human rights.”

As Cardinal Wuerl has previously stated, “No freedom is more precious and deserving of vigilance than our freedom of conscience.”

John Cheeseman Will this carry any serious weight? I hope so.

Terri Sutton Knight I did not understand why the Catholics or the Jews backed him to begin with. He thinks that it is okay to abort a child up to 2 YEARS OLD. Folks why would Catholics vote for that? Why would anyone except for killers? 2 Years old! Did they think it would be different?

Jennie I'm Catholic and I did not vote for Mr. O. I don't understand how any Catholic or person of faith would pull the lever for this abortion loving president. It's mind boggling! But we press on and try to wake up the faithful to his agenda.

Cyrus Jennie - the president has done absolutely nothing either way regarding abortion. On the other hand, I too am Christian, and I have no idea how anybody could pull the lever for a Republican in favor of repealing the Affordable Health Care for America Act and leave millions of Americans out in the cold when it comes to taking care of themselves and their families.

In January of 2009 Obama, by executive order, ended the Mexico City Policy (Reagon era initiative), which was one of the keys preventing US tax dollars going to directly support abortion and contraception in developing countries (what used to be called LDC'S). Within the same time frame, at the height of of the global recession Obama promised 63 billion dollars to the UN to fund his GHI (Global Health Initiative) which has, as part of it's mandate, "the prevention of the birth of millions of unwanted children." to Cyrus: do your own research: check out USAID, the GHI, UNFPA (United Nations Fund for Population Affairs) and, if you like, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Please note that the largest "family planning meeting" in history ended only a month or so ago in Senegal, hosted by the Gates Foundation. From a historical perspective check into NSSM 200, NSDM 74, and NSDM 314 and the Rockefeller Commission Report of 1972.

Cyrus Jennie, you can't link to your own writings to prove your point. Also, even while they may get emergency care, millions of Americans are then saddled with bills that they positively can't pay. They go medically bankrupt and they have terrible credit, so they can't find a place to live, buy a car, etc, leaving them homeless and jobless. Just because they had a heart attack.

This thread begin with abortion and Obamacare. Well, ideas for abortion in healthcare is nothing new. Consider this within the The Rockefeller Commission Report of 1972, “On Population Growth and the American Future.” Within that report it specifically stated that America’s population was already too large and needed to be reduced by enacting laws for abortion and by including sex and population education within the curriculum of public school children. It also recommended, “That federal, state, and local governments make funds available to support abortion services in states with liberalized statutes. That abortion be specifically included in comprehensive health insurance benefits, both public and private.” Today, there is a debate about whether or not to include Federal funding for abortion within Obamacare, however, it was first proposed as early as 1972. The logic of this, is that by having fewer children, all of society benefits, therefore all members of society must contribute, financially, to their destruction. If we do not, the projected costs of possible entitlements for the care of a child (consumer) would be much too expensive for the government, both in currency and resources. Of course this idea presupposes that all children are or will become "consumers" of preciious natural resources better left for an elite minority to manage properly.

Send this to every election official you can:

[NAME OF STATE]

RE: REMOVE Barack Obama From Your Ballot!

Dear [TITLE] [LAST NAME]:

I'm writing to ask you to please REMOVE the name of Barack Hussein Obama II from your State's presidential election ballot, due to his ineligibility to serve in that office under Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution.

The U.S. Supreme Court has made clear, in cases such as Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162 (1875); Shanks v. Dupont, 28 U.S. 3 Pet. 242 242 (1830); and United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649 (1898), among others, that a "natural born Citizen" is one who is born on U.S. soil to U.S. citizen parents. Barack Hussein Obama II has publicly admitted his father, Barack Obama Sr., was a Kenyan native and a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. Barack Obama Sr. NEVER became a U.S. citizen. Therefore, Barack Hussein Obama II is not now, and never CAN be, a natural born citizen of the United States.

Jurisdiction falls squarely on your shoulders as head of the State's office that conducts elections, and it is your sworn duty as a person of honor and a public servant to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution. That Constitution that is now under attack and assault by the Democratic National Committee for having failed in their responsibility to submit an eligible candidate for inclusion on this State's ballot. Please, do the RIGHT thing: REMOVE the name of Barack Hussein Obama II from your State's presidential election ballot, due to his ineligibility to serve in that office under Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution. Thank you.

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]

I have a better idea, a one page health care insurance bill:
A free market health insurance plan. Let's all pause here for a moment so progressives can Google the term "free market."

Nearly every problem with health care in this country – apart from trial lawyers and out-of-date magazines in doctors' waiting rooms – would be solved by this plan.

In the first sentence, Congress will amend the McCarran-Ferguson Act to allow interstate competition in health insurance.

We can't have a free market in health insurance until Congress eliminates the antitrust exemption protecting health insurance companies from competition. If progressives really wanted to punish insurance companies, which they manifestly do not, they'd make insurers compete.

The very next sentence of provides that the exclusive regulator of insurance companies will be the state where the company's home office is. Every insurance company in the country would incorporate in the state with the fewest government mandates, just as most corporations are based in Delaware today.

That's the only way to bypass idiotic state mandates, requiring all insurance plans offered in the state to cover, for example, the Zone Diet, sex-change operations and whatever it is that poor Heidi Montag has done to herself this week.

President Obama says we need national health care because Natoma Canfield of Ohio had to drop her insurance when she couldn't afford the $6,700 premiums, and now she's got cancer.

While Obama's use of terminally ill human beings as political props is disgusting, perhaps Natoma could have afforded insurance had she not been required by Ohio's state insurance mandates to purchase a plan that covers infertility treatments and unlimited ob/gyn visits, among other things.

It sounds like Natoma could have used a plan that covered only the basics – you know, things like cancer.

The third sentence would prohibit the federal government from regulating insurance companies, except for normal laws and regulations that apply to all companies.

Freed from onerous state and federal mandates turning insurance companies into public utilities, insurers would be allowed to offer a whole smörgåsbord of insurance plans, finally giving consumers a choice.

Instead of Harry Reid deciding whether your insurance plan covers Viagra, this decision would be made by you, the consumer. (I apologize for using the terms "Harry Reid" and "Viagra" in the same sentence. I promise that won't happen again.)

Instead of insurance companies jumping to the tune of politicians bought by health-care lobbyists, they would jump to tune of hundreds of millions of Americans buying health insurance on the free market.

Hypochondriac progressives could still buy the aromatherapy plan, and normal people would be able to buy plans that only cover things such as major illness, accidents and disease. (Again – things like Natoma Canfield's cancer.)

This would, in effect, transform medical insurance into a form of actual insurance!

This bill would solve nearly every problem allegedly addressed by Obamacare – and entails zero cost to the taxpayer. Indeed, a free market in health insurance would produce major tax savings as layers of government bureaucrats, unnecessary to medical service in America, get fired.

For example, in a free market, the government wouldn't need to prohibit insurance companies from excluding "pre-existing conditions."

Of course, an insurance company has to be able to refuse new customers with "pre-existing conditions." Otherwise, everyone would just wait to get sick to buy insurance. It's the same reason you can't buy fire insurance on a house that's already on fire.

That isn't an "insurance company"; it's what's known as a "Christian charity."

What progressives are insinuating when they denounce exclusions of "pre-existing conditions" is an insurance company using the "pre-existing condition" ruse to deny coverage to a current policy holder – someone who's been paying into the plan, year after year.

Any insurance company operating in the free market that pulled that trick wouldn't stay in business long.

If hotels were as heavily regulated as health insurance is, right now I'd be explaining to you why the government doesn't need to mandate that hotels offer rooms with beds. If they didn't, they'd go out of business.

I'm sure people who lived in the old Soviet Union thought it was crazy to leave groceries to the free market. ("But what if they don't stock the food we want?")

The market is certainly a more powerful enforcement mechanism than indolent government bureaucrats. If you don't believe that, ask Toyota about six months from now.

Right now, insurance companies are protected by government regulations from having to honor their contracts. Violating contracts isn't so easy when competitors are lurking, ready to steal your customers.

In addition to saving taxpayer money and providing better health insurance, this plan also saves trees by being 2,199 pages shorter than the progressives' plan.

So the plan does give progressives a little bone.

Feel free to steal this, Patriots! Reformed progressives may steal it too!
