Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.

Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. His campaign brands you a Romney donor, shames you for "betting against America," and accuses you of having a "less-than-reputable" record. The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.

Are you worried?

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

ESTABLISHING THE PRESIDENT'S GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Policy. To help protect national security and further American economic, humanitarian, and strategic interests in the world, it is the policy of the Federal Government to promote and elevate development as a core pillar of American power and chart a course for development, diplomacy, and defense to reinforce and complement one another. As stated in the 2010 National Security Strategy and the Presidential Policy Directive on Global Development, the successful pursuit of development is essential to advancing our national security objectives: security, prosperity, respect for universal values, and a just and sustainable international order. The effectiveness of this development policy will depend in large measure on how we engage with partners, beneficiaries of our development assistance, and stakeholders. We will use evidence-based decision-making in all areas of U.S. development policy and programs, and we commit to foster development expertise and learning worldwide.

Most Americans take for granted the intricate systems that make it possible for us to engage in seemingly mundane day to day tasks like filling up our gas tanks, loading up our shopping carts at the local grocery store, obtaining necessary medications, and even pouring ourselves a clean glass of water. When we wake up each morning we just expect that all of these things will work today the same way they worked yesterday. Very few have considered the complexity involved in the underlying infrastructure that keeps goods, services and commerce in America flowing. Fewer still have ever spent the time to contemplate the fragility of these systems or the consequences on food, water, health care, the financial system, and the economy if they are interrupted.

RUSH: I happened to be watching the Fox business channel this morning, Fox Business Network. It was up there accidentally.  I normally have something else on that monitor.  It was about 20 minutes until 11 o'clock, and I don't even know what made me look up. But I looked up and I saw a graphic that said some guy was talking about advertising on this program.  I looked and I looked, and I finally hit the mute button. So I listened to it and was reading the closed-captioning.  It turned out that it was an advertiser of this program by the name of Mark Stevens.  He's CEO of a company called MSCO.  He was on Varney & Co., Stuart Varney and his gang, Charles Lane, on the Fox Business Network.  And this guy has got this down pat.  He knows exactly what's going on here, and I wanted to play these two sound bites for you.  Here's the first...

The Chevrolet Volt is everything that is wrong with Washington on four wheels, and investors (that’s you and me) should be furious.

Wrong #1: The Volt should be re-named the Vote. Several hundred protesters gathered several blocks from the White House in Washington, D.C.'s Freedom Plaza for a rally and concert as part of the Days of Rage movement Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011. Madeleine Morgenstern/The Blaze

Once again the unemployment rate rose and the economy added far fewer jobs than anticipated in June, confirming fears that an economic slump has taken hold and further dashing hopes that a powerful recovery will be soon forthcoming. Americans know by now that the 9.2% unemployment rate reported by the Obama Administration is a fraudulent figure manipulated since January 2009 to hide the true unemployment rate from Americans. In January 2009, to facilitate Obama’s socialist policies, the Administration on arbitrarily changed the formula for computing the unemployment rate removing all workers that no longer collecting unemployment checks from the formula, no longer counting workers that become displaced because of the depression, and they added to the formula temporary workers, illegals on payrolls, and double counting jobs in government that involve position changes and transfers.

One morning, Jane, one of your employees, announces that she’s quitting, effective immediately, and stalks out.  You know — or think you know — your California law, which requires that, when an employee quits, you have her payment ready within three days of her departure.  (That would be Calif. Ever since this continent was electrificated, Americans have been allowed to plug anything they want into their own electrical outlet.

The history of electricity is a biography of modernism. Originally intended just to light homes, electric power was soon used to run sewing machines, fans, teakettles, and toasters. According to Dr. Rachel P. Maines the fifth electrical appliance to be invented, was a device to treat hysteria (which is used in more homes today, than sewing machines and electric teakettles). Shortly after hysteria was cured, electric irons and vacuum cleaners became feasible

At the 1986 White House Conference on Small Business, President Ronald Reagan offered these famous remarks about politicians' views on business in the 1970s. Reagan said, "Back then, government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Amazingly, in that speech nearly 25 years ago, Reagan also summed up perfectly the Obama administration's view of the economy in the present. On Thursday, President Obama announced that the government is providing a loan guarantee of $250 million to Ford Motor Co. from the Export-Import Bank. In making the announcement, at a Ford assembly plant in Chicago, Obama also defended billions of dollars in TARP bailouts to Ford rivals, General Motors and Chrysler, that he continued from the Bush administration.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama's "reckless" moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is suffocating small businesses and destroying livelihoods, lawmakers and residents said Tuesday.

"The decision to stop energy exploration in the Gulf of Mexico appears to have been made in an uninformed manner that borders recklessness," Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu told the small business committee, which she chairs.

During a 45-minute conference call with journalists from 40 major media outlets this morning, Jack Gerard shared some startling predictions about the future health of the nation’s oil and natural gas industry if the Obama Administration gets its way in adding more regulation and increasing taxes on offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. The biggest one of all is enough to cause anyone to take pause:

“The administration’s moratorium, if continued indefinitely — or similar legislative proposals which would make the deep water unavailable or uneconomic — would cost this country 175,000 jobs every year between now and 2035, according to our latest analysis,” said Gerard, president of the American Petroleum Institute, a group representing some 400 oil and natural gas companies.

However, the businesses allowed to stay open “were retained because they were recently appointed, were key wholesale parts dealers, or were minority-or woman-owned dealerships.”
